When a man is attracted to a woman these days, he has to be so-o-o careful. Every move, every impulse is questioned and even doubted for its honesty. I understand that. You girls need to protect yourselves, I get that. But my God...
Today at my new coffee place...I was coming in. I opened the door and there was a very attractive young woman, probably 30 or so. I held the door for her...she stood and stared at me and said "Come on." Meaning that I should come through the door first. She had her hands full and I simply said "Please. Your hands are full, I'll hold the door for you."
She said to me "And have you let it go on me?"
As if my first impulse was to slam a door on someone. Now she had to have actually experienced such a thing, which is fucking tragic. What dick would do something like that? But....you have to be ready for anything these days.
Is this kind of etiquette really gone? Or am I just getting old?

Sad when folks don't recognize courtesy when they see it. Show's it sorely lacking in most places.
I have seen men act ill mannered many times. Actually I think sometimes that it is not used as frequently enough that some just do not utilize it on a daily basis.
I think a manners training class needs to be offered for those whom have seemed to have forgotten.
What has happened was the question....well I don't think any have the answer. Bad parenting, maybe.
At least we know that there are gentlemen out there! Thanks for being one Ron!
Oh Ron honey she was just PMS or something. PLEASE don't let that bitch change the generous and thoughtful gentleman you are.

What a drag. Holding doors open is nice because it's the right thing to do. But it's also nice to get that smile (from a man or woman.) It's that acknowledgment of "Hey, we're all together in this world." Pity she doesn't get it.
That's weird. I've never seen someone purposely shut a door on someone, and it's so strange she would even think of that. No, I don't think it's you getting old, I think this is just plain weird.
I'm with Fex.
Where I live it is common courtesy to hold doors for both women and men.
It's horrible to think that someone actually did that to her. I can understand if you and she were pre-teens where this might be thought of as funny but she seems a little old to be having jr. high flashbacks and you certainly don't look like a psycho.
I've never seen someone slam a door on a stranger on purpose like that.
Ron, you're definitely not too old, you've just encountered a strange, weird person!
stupid twat!
she didn't know what she was missing in behaving like that to you.... her loss
